Released
March 1st
Boyzone
have been chosen to record the 1999 Comic Relief Song, following
in the footsteps of acts such as Bananarama and the Spice Girls.
The song will be their own version of Billy Ocean's eighties hit
'When The Going Gets Tough' and will be released on March 1st.
The song made
famous as the theme tune to adventure film 'Romancing the Stone'
with Michael Douglas, Danny De Vito and Kathleen Turner, has been
given a new lease of life by Boyzone. This will be the first recorded
material the band have released, which is not featured on their
number one album 'Where We Belong'. The album has been a permanent
fixture in the UK top twenty album chart, since its release last
May, where it hit the number one spot on two separate occasions
and is still sitting pretty in the top ten.
In keeping
with the comedy theme, video director Kevin Godley created a fun
filled atmosphere for both the band and celebrity guests on set.
The video will see Shane transformed into a Formula One driver,
Keith finding his rhythm on the drums, Ronan taking a swing at becoming
a golfer, Stephen becoming a DJ and Mikey taking on a new role as
the one and only 'Bond, James Bond'! Even Billy Ocean himself popped
along to the set, for a cup of tea and a chat with the band.
The 'When The
Going Gets Tough' video will star a host of familiar faces, including
Jo Brand, Ulrika Johnson, Emmerdale's Dingle family, Davina MaCall,
Phil Jupitus, Irish Boxer Steve Collin, Mel Smith, Harry Hill, Mystic
Meg and snooker player Jimmy White, all of whom gave up their time
for Comic Relief! Boyzone's Keith says "we felt honoured to be asked
to do the Comic Relief song, so we thought it only fair to make
the video a bit special, and it certainly is!"
