Shane
wanted to be a pop star since the age of 12. He and his friend
Mark had got in touch with Louis at a local talent show they were
taking part in . Just like the rest of the band, he sang "Careless
Whisper" at his audition, but whereas everyone else did three
auditions, Shane only did one. At the time he'd been airing his
singing voice in the glamorous location of his Dad's garage, where
he was working as an apprentice mechanic - until Boyzone beckoned..

while he was at school, then an Apprentice Mechanic at the same

The
Best Thing About Being In Boyzone:
"The whole thing has been a complete bonus, we didn't expect any
of this, we didn't know it was gonna go anywhere".
What
kind of product would you like to see invented during the 21st
century?
I couldn't tell you! The more inventions there are the lazier
we get, in terms of everything is being done for you. You lose
all your skills. I'm not too up for anything more being invented
I don't think.
What
do you think has been the best invention of your lifetime so far?
Most definitely the likes of entertainment - stuff like the television,
radio, that kind of stuff. Boyzone would have been in trouble
if those things hadn't been invented, I think. Other than that
nothing really stands out.
What have been your favourite bands/artists of the 1990's?
Well everybody knows that my kind of music are rap and reggae.
Most of my favourite bands came about in the 80's, and most of
them have continued on into the 1990's. A lot of new RnB artists
have appeared in the 90's, people like Puff Daddy and the likes
of him, but i'm nit really into that kind of stuff that wouldn't
generally be played on the radio. A lot of the newer music of
today is influenced by my favourite stuff from the 80's, artists
like Public Enemy, Bob Marley, Run DMC, in terms of sampling etc.
What
new bands/artists of this year are you looking forward to hearing
more from in the year 2000?
I like Destiny's Child a lot actually. I think they're an excellent,
excellent group. They've just released their second album, so
they're not at all new. But I think they're very, very good and
they should be around for a long, long time, well into the 21st
century. They're very talented. I think their vocal arrangements
especially, are excellent.
Who
would you give a millennium award to?
I'd give an award to Allison! For writing our official magazine
and being a wonderful person!
What
5 items would you bury in a time capsule for people to learn more
about your life in the 20th century?
It would want to be a big box because I have to have a car in
there! Just some kind of a race car. Also a body piercing and
tattoo kit. Some item of baggy clothing. And a baseball cap, a
Georgetown baseball cap maybe...
What
will be your motto for the year 2000?
Same as every other year! Live life so it makes me happy... What
were the Boyzone highlights of 1999? Releasing our greatest hits,
that was definitely a highlight. And I think the break that we
took after the summer tour was good, that's the reason I was able
to get a bit more serious about doing my motorsport. That's been
a big, big thing for 1999 for me. Probably the main thing I suppose.
We've all opened our minds in terms of what we want to do individually.
Taken control of that for a while before we came back to the band.
It helps you to find yourself, and to understand how important
the band is to us all.
